We are proud to be the venue for the IVF Va’a Outrigger Sprint World Championships 2022.

We are particularly delighted because it will be the first time ever that the event has been held in Europe. Va’a racing is the national sport for most of the South Pacific island nations, so it will truly be a first for Dorney Lake to host such a unique event.

The first day of racing begins on Wednesday 10th August, ending on Tuesday 16th August 2022.

Event Schedule

Va'a racing throughout the event will include World Elite Sprint Championship, World Club Sprint Championship and Para Va'a competitions with athletes from most of the South Pacific island nations taking part. 

 

Alongside the racing, there will be lots to see and do in celebration of the Pacific and UK cultures that blend to create the foundation of the sport of va’a in the UK providing a space for our Ohana to share knowledge and culture.

Throughout the event, there will be talks and workshops related to va'a and the water environments around the world the sport is practiced in. The range of topics is wide and currently include: "how to rig"; boat building; ukulele; haka; Morris Dancing; Bagpipes and Hawaii. There will be displays and the sale of traditional Pacific and UK arts and crafts.

 

As part of this wonderful event, all competing countries will come together on the evening of Saturday 13th August 2022 to showcase their own national identity by way of song and dance. As most of the competing nations emanate from the Pacific Rim, there will be an exciting Polynesian cultural theme to the ceremony, including the different island nation’s version of the Haka.
